A Brief History and Status of Teso College Aloet
1. Background
Teso College Aloet is a traditional boys’ boarding secondary school established by the then Teso District Local Government on 9th July, 1954. Its Foundation stone was laid by the Governor of Uganda, His Excellency, Sir Andrew Cohen.
Teso College Aloet was expanded in 1960 to form two campuses, East Wing and West Wing, in response to the growing demand for secondary education. This expansion was achieved through the merger of the former Soroti Technical School and Madera Technical School, the latter of which now operates as a technical institute.
Over the years, Teso College Aloet has sustained its glorious history of student enrolment and upholds a strong tradition and legacy of discipline and academic excellence. It has produced top-notch personalities who have excelled in various fields of life and continue to contribute significantly to national development as Professors, Doctors, Engineers, Administrators, and Politicians, etc.
Despite the insecurity that affected Teso College Aloet and led to the deterioration of school infrastructure from the 1970s through the 1990s, and again in 2003, significant progress has been made in restoring the institution’s facilities. The NRM Government under His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni extended financial support for the rehabilitation of the dilapidated structures.
In addition, the Board of Governors and the School Administration have continuously invested in renovation works in the College. The Alumni of Teso College Aloet also played a pivotal role; mobilized resources and constructed a modern Library and E-learning Centre in the West Wing of the school, which was officially commissioned by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Uganda, on 26th March, 2022.
Teso College Aloet continues to strengthen its infrastructure and ensure reliable service delivery for the wellbeing of its students and staff. The school generates its own water from the production well, providing a dependable alternative water source that supports the implementation of the new secondary school curriculum. In addition, the College is undertaking a phased replacement of old asbestos roofing with durable iron sheets on all school buildings. This initiative aims to improve safety, promote a healthier learning environment, and enhance the longevity of the school’s physical infrastructure.
2. Students Discipline & Welfare
The administration and management of Teso College Aloet remains committed to upholding school’s core values of discipline, excellence, integrity, and service. The overall discipline of students is good, due to the vigilance of the school administration. Student behaviour remains largely stable, supported by effective prefecture leadership, guidance and counselling, and strict adherence to school rules.
The school is managing the health condition of students in the school sickbays and through close collaboration with parents and the nearby government health facility, Princess Diana Memorial Health Centre IV, which provides referral medical attention and support whenever needed (in line with government policy). However, we recognize that some parents may prefer their children to be attended to from private clinics of their choice.
The overall students’ welfare is satisfactory. The boarding environment in the school remains generally conducive, with the kitchen, sanitation, and dormitory systems functioning well and supporting the daily welfare of our students. As a boarding school, the welfare of students remains a priority. Feeding takes priority in the budget and the menu includes; posho, beans, rice and eggs. Meat, fish & chicken is provided on Saturdays and on all public holidays.
3. Co-Curricular/Games & Sports:
The school provides opportunities for students to participate in various Co-curricular activities for example scouting, MDD, football, cricket, athletics, valley ball, basketball, dance sport, hand ball, beach socker, debates, wildlife Club, Interact Club, YCS Club, UNSA, Environment club as well as academic Clubs; and records outstanding performance in co-curricular activities throughout the year.
The Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Education and Sports, is currently constructing a semi-Olympic swimming pool at Teso College Aloet, with a view of promoting physical education, enhancing students’ swimming skills, and fostering talent in aquatic sports.
4. Academic Performance in National Examinations
The academic standing of Teso College Aloet remains strong due to the dedication and commitment of the teachers in nurturing and guiding students is truly commendable. This explains why Teso College Aloet has maintained a reputation for strong academic performance in both UCE and UACE examinations.
Over the past years:
- UCE results have shown steady improvement, with increasing numbers of candidates obtaining Division I. An increasing number of candidates attain eight aggregates in eight subjects, reflecting strengthened academic effort and commitment.
- Teso College Aloet proudly announces its exceptional academic performance in the UCE 2025 examinations, marking a historic milestone in the institution’s journey of excellence. For the first time since its establishment in 1954, the school was ranked 36th at the national level, placing it among the top performing secondary schools in the country. The school celebrates this success as a shared victory and looks forward to even greater accomplishments in the years ahead.
- Teso College Aloet again registered outstanding performance in the UACE 2025 results. The school overwhelmingly passed all its candidates in science subjects as follows:

We are confident that, with the continued commitment of all stakeholders, the school is on course to send a bigger number of students (at least more than 20 students) to public universities on national merit in the 2026/2027 academic year. We therefore need to encourage all our learners, especially the current candidates, to remain focused, disciplined, and determined to excel.
